TweetDeck on GNU/Linux Gentoo

TweetDeck on GNU/Linux Gentoo

Prerequisite: I don’t know any. All I know, I am using GNU/Linux Gentoo and I can play Steam well with WINE.

On random surf, I stumble upon TweetDeck’s site and got this:

TweetDeck by Twitter

I have a strict rule of not using third party application. With Big Data on business, I don’t want my data get mined freely. I know I am paranoid, but, hey, that’s me.

Anyway, the site suggests that TweetDeck is a part of Twitter now. Sweet! Now I can install this Twitter client without worry. (I hope)

Do it already!

Download the file:

$ wget https://downloads.tweetdeck.com/windows/TweetDeck.msi

Install the file:

$ wine msiexec /i TweetDeck.msi

In my time of writing, TweetDeck doesn’t make any shortcut. Maybe because of my exotic desktop manager (E17). You could create it yourself. Here’s the TweetDeck.desktop example:

[Desktop Entry]
Name=TweetDeck
Exec=env WINEPREFIX="/home/USER/.wine" wine C:\\\\windows\\\\command\\\\start.exe
/Unix /home/USER/.wine/dosdevices/c:/users/USER/Start\\ Menu/Programs/TweetDeck/TweetDeck.lnk
Type=Application
StartupNotify=true
Path=/home/USER/.wine/dosdevices/c:/Program Files (x86)/Twitter/TweetDeck/
Icon=0C58_TweetDeck.0
